What are the benefits of participating in a Clinical Trial?
Why join studies with DAVAI Clinical Research:
Access
Clinical trials evaluate new therapies that are not yet widely available. Through your GP or specialist clinic, you may have early access to treatments that could improve your health or quality of life.
Thinking About Participating in a Clinical Trial?
At DAVAI Clinical Research, we understand that choosing to participate in a clinical trial is a big decision. That’s why we’re here to help you understand the process and feel confident every step of the way.
Before you decide, it’s important to weigh both the potential benefits and risks. Always speak with your doctor and ask questions so you can make an informed choice.
What Is a Clinical Trial?
A clinical trial is a research study that involves people. It’s designed to test new ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat diseases, and helps bring innovative medical solutions to the community.
There are two main types of clinical studies:
- Clinical trials (interventional studies) – test new treatments, medical devices, or procedures.
- Observational studies – monitor participants over time without changing their treatment.
Who Conducts Clinical Trials?
All studies are overseen by a Principal Investigator (PI) — a qualified medical doctor. The PI is supported by a dedicated team that may include nurses, study coordinators, and other health professionals.
Clinical trials may be sponsored by:
- Pharmaceutical or biotech companies
- Medical device manufacturer
- Universities or hospitals
- Government research grants (e.g., NHMRC)
Where Do DAVAI Trials Take Place?
Our trials are conducted across convenient, community-based locations, including:
- GP Clinics
- Specialist Centres
- Research units in Western Sydney
We work closely with doctors and patients to make participation as smooth and comfortable as possible.
How Long Does a Trial Last?
It varies. Some trials last a few weeks, while others may run for several months or more. You’ll be informed about the duration and visit schedule before you decide to take part.
Who Can Join a Clinical Trial?
Each study has eligibility criteria that determine who can participate. These are based on factors such as:
- Age and gender
- Medical history
- Type and stage of disease
- Current medications or conditions
Some trials are for people with specific illnesses, while others involve healthy volunteers.
How Are Participants Protected?
Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority.
Informed Consent
Before joining, you’ll receive detailed information about the study, including:
- What’s involved
- Potential risks and benefits
- Your rights to withdraw at any time
You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, and you’ll only join if you feel fully informed and comfortable.
Ethics Committee Oversight
Every trial at DAVAI is reviewed and approved by a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). The committee ensures that the study is ethically sound and that participants’ rights are protected.
Some trials also have additional safety oversight through data monitoring committees.
